The countdown to the 2023 Oregon AFSCME Convention begins!

In exactly one month from now, we’ll come together as a union at the Salem Convention Center, conduct business to help make our union stronger and learn valuable insights from each other to take back to our own Locals at the end of the weekend. This year’s theme is United For Our Future.

The 2021 Convention was one for the history books, with over 100 members who (virtually) showed up and served as delegates. The voting power of delegates helped pass 6 important Constitutional Resolutions, including I Am Essential, and 3 Amendments.

2021 set the tone and direction for a union ready to fight for better conditions in a pandemic where many of us are on the frontlines, making sacrifices in our personal lives and well-being for the state of Oregon. This year, we’re excited for another successful Convention knowing that we are the reason Oregon functions. We’ll be back in person at the Salem Convention Center this year, so we can share stories face to face, make decisions in the same room, and see just how we are all one big team, despite our diverse backgrounds.

Pre-Convention Leadership Summit

The morning of the 28th, we’re thrilled to include our biennial leadership summit, where delegates have the opportunity to attend three workshops with a wide range of topics. Some topics to choose from:

  • Leadership Development
  • Tech Tools
  • Breaking Biases
  • Combating Burnout
  • Running Effective Meetings
  • And more!

After the breakout workshops, we’ll all come together for a Trauma Informed Care Workshop. Be sure to sign up for the leadership summit here so you don’t miss it!

On the Agenda

It’s important for delegates to be at Convention, as we have Officers (President, 1st and 2nd Vice President, Treasurer), and 3 Trustees up for election. We’ll also elect our Council Executive Board, the body responsible for setting our union’s direction between convention years. We also have Constitutional Amendments and Resolutions that need to be passed with the power of delegates’ votes. At the end of the day, it’s our responsibility (and privilege) to set bold targets for our union and work towards them.

In addition to conducting Council business, we’re excited for our wonderful speakers: AFSCME International President Lee Saunders with a keynote address, a President’s speech from Oregon AFSCME President Fred Yungbluth, Oregon AFSCME Executive Director Stacy Chamberlain’s State of Our Union, remarks from Oregon AFSCME Associate Director Joe Baessler, and many other inspiring and knowledgeable members/panelists and elected officials.

When we’re not conducting official business or learning from our fabulous speakers, we’ll have plenty of social time to swap stories and ideas…and a casino night for contributors to the PEOPLE fund.

We’re ready, we’re fired up, and we’re United For Our Future. Members from around the state are ready…

Are you?
